Portuguese made easy - comparatives
Comparatives - How to compare things
Portuguese: Easier or more difficult?
You make a comparative of an adjective (or adverb) simply by placing "mais" (more) or "menos" (less) in front of the word and "do que" or "que" after it.
Example:
Adjective |
Comparative |
Linda (beautiful) |
mais linda do que ... (More beautiful than ...) |
Frio (cold) |
mais frio do que ... (colder than ...) |
Longe (far) |
mais longe do que ... (further than) |
Fluente (fluent) |
Mais fluente do que ... (more fluent than ...) |
Careful with these important exceptions:
Adjective/adverb |
Comparative |
bom / bem (good / well) |
melhor do que ... (better than ...) |
mau (bad) |
pior do que ... (worse than ...) |
grande (big) |
maior do que ... (bigger than ...) |
